Three Duas to Recite During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Three Duas to Recite During the COVID-19 Pandemic

At times, when it seems like there is no hope, when people are becoming sick and suffering surrounds us, when life is far from normal, it can be easy to give up.

But our beautiful Deen and the Sunnah of the Prophet (SAW) gives us hope. When we place our trust in Allah and ask Him to pull us out of difficulties, He responds, whether we realize it or not. His response could be in the form of us getting what we asked for; or through the removal of a calamity from our life; or a reward, not in this world, but in Jannah.

Our responsibility is to ask Him persistently, and with sincerity, knowing that only He can answer our calls.

The following are three duas that can help us during these tough times. Although this is not meant to be an exhaustive list, these duas can certainly help us in our daily remembrance of Allah (SWT).

Dua One: Placing Our Trust in Allah

Before all else, we must affirm in our hearts and with our tongues that we trust Allah and understand that He is the only one who can get us out of difficulties

حَسْبُنا اللهُ ونِعْمَ الوَکِیل علَی اللهِ تَوکَّلنا

Hasbun Allahu wa ni’mal wakeel ‘alAllahi tawakkalna.

“Allah is Sufficient for us, and a great Disposer of affairs is He. Upon Allah (SWT) do we rely.”

Dua Two: Seeking Ease

While it is true that, many times, Believers face hardships in life, it does not mean that we should avoid actively seeking ease if a calamity does befall us. Here’s a beautiful dua asking Allah (SWT) with extreme humbleness.

اللهُمَّ لا سَهْلَ إلا مَا جَعَلتَهُ سَهْلا وَ أنتَ تَجْعَلُ الحزْنَ إذا شِئْتَ سَهْلا

Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja’altahu sahla, wa ‘anta taj-alul hazna idha shi’ta sahla.

“O Allah! There is no ease other than what You make easy, and if you please, You ease sorrow.”

Dua Three: Seeking Refuge and Protection from All Sides

This dua is a comprehensive prayer recommended by the Prophet (SAW), seeking protection from harm that may come in any shape or form.

Allahummah-fazni min baini yadaiya, wa min khalfi, wa ‘an yameeni, wa ‘an shimali wa min fauqi, wa a’uzu bi’azomatika an ughtala min tahti.

“O Allah protect me from my front, behind me, from my right and my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being taken unaware from beneath me.”

Remember that no matter how difficult the situation, Allah, Alone, can get us through it. It is up to us to ask.
